VMI wants all new cadets to succeed, and to do so they must be physically and mentally prepared.
Age and Medical
Applicants are normally not less than 16 or more than 22 years old at matriculation and may not be married or a parent. A one-year age waiver may be granted for an applicant who has served on active duty in the armed forces or for other extenuating circumstances.
The fitness review for VMI is an assessment of a student's medical condition and history to ensure that he or she can safely accomplish program requirements. For example, weight and body fat are reviewed during the admissions process to ensure a student's health may not be jeopardized.
Applicants need 16 academic units, and VMI recommends that they are distributed as four English, two algebra, and one geometry (a second language is recommended, but not required).
Scholarship and walk-on athletes are required to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center for determining eligibility. You may obtain a Student Release Form from your high school counselor.
