Faculty, students, and staff across all disciplines at VMI enhance their academic experience through research, scholarship, and creative activity. Teachers and researchers are continuously developing their interests, contributing to their fields of study, improving their curricula, and fostering a culture of inquiry and investigation for cadets at VMI.
VMI provides programs, policies, and initiatives to support researchers in every phase of inquiry. These include guidelines for the pursuit of research at VMI, Faculty Development Workshops, undergraduate research collaborations, library resource instruction, VMI sponsored funding opportunities, and assistance in identifying and pursuing external funding opportunities.
Usually, a research project may span one or two years in duration with the bulk of a student's research being conducted over one or two summers. During the summer, students are often paid a stipend similar to some internships.
